Was a little on the fence about it, $300 for a toy, but I’m really excited. I mainly want to use it for Gravity Sketch, a VR 3d modeling app, and with Unreal Studio/ SketchFab to do mock ups of furniture designs in VR. I’m having it shipped directly to the office so I can show it off to the boss (and so I can be sure I receive my expensive purchase). I have played with my friend’s original Rift before (he’s a really cool 3d artist that does a lot of work in VR check out his stuff here: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! )

Anyone else on Oppo use an Oculus or other VR? I’m excited about playing some games too, but I really view this as a creative tool before anything else. Been wanting to get into VR for a while now, and was actually talking to my friend about it yesterday morning before the Quest 2 was officially announced. Was thinking about getting a Rift S but then this new one comes out $100 cheaper and for my purposes pretty much the same unit but better in a few ways.

Last time I pre ordered something was in 2011 when I preordered a Nintendo 3ds. Knowing how the Quest 1 frequently was out of stock even a year after it’s release I thought I’d treat myself with this.

I get to use a HoloLens 2 occasionally. It’s not a gaming device, but it’s great for design work. I’m too old for VR. The full occlusion headsets can give me motion sickness. I can handle the mixed reality better.

I’m also lucky that I don’t have to buy the thing. At $3,500, it’s not something you buy to use at home.

I had an HTC Vive, it was impressive but it gave me headaches with the space and flying games. I used to fly around in helicopter and jump out of planes so it isn’t motion, I guess the screen is too close or the eye tracking military simulators do is very important. I got one early because I work on shows, by the time I sold it on Ebay people were still trying to buy one so I didn’t lose money.

I have a Vive and the simple archery game where you defend your fort was fun as hell. The high end games gave me a headache after 30min. Maybe the simple stuff is ok, I might try it.

I don’t plan on not liking it, but if I don’t O culus has a 30 day return policy AND with Christmas season coming up and diminished manufacturing capabilities this year I'm not worried about selling it for much less than I bought it for if I have to.

That’s true, I still have the Asus gaming tower I got for VR and I’m going to switch to it soon. I have been on the same laptop for a few years and I keep eyeing that powerful beast in the box. I don’t really play games so it will be way more than I need. I do have some red alert games on it, I put them on when I was messing around with it.

I got a pretty good Dell Precision mobile workstation my last year of school 2 years ago and at the time it was advertised as VR ready. Decent quadro workstation graphics, higher end mobile i7, SSDs. I hardly use it now since I use an iMac at work, will be fun to get back into it.

Well I just tried to get that Asus going and there are some errors, I couldn’t get my VPN install working, some kind of .NET code 5100 error, said restart so I did, then I read it has to do with some shit I have no idea how to fix. Some weird stuff going on, I also hate the post Windows 8 interface and I can’t seem to get Start10 working to make it like Windows 7. I might have to take it to the nerd shop near me, I hate that since you end up paying a lot.

I forget my exact configuration but I have windows 10 start pretty well dialed. I have the tiling thing turned off, and the start menu set to a “compact” setting. Also have all the menus set to a very clean opaque black.

Although I don’t really use the start menu like I used to in Windows 7. The search feature really is handy and intuitive, I hardly ever go through all the menus any more.

It just makes me nuts, I like the older style, it is easy and makes sense. I don’t care about making things look fancy or tiles and blah blah.

I have used a Vive, but we have a first gen Quest and love it. For inside out tracking it is the best on the market. I am interested to hear how the 2 turns out.

The one thing stopping u s from getting a 2 is the whole FB requiring you to log in and use their crap. We can still have no FB services on the og Quest, the the 2 is requiring it and that isn’t something that benefits the world of VR and is a really shitty shitty business practice .
